How to File for Unemployment in Texas
Texas has a distinctive rule for anyone whose last job was through a temp agency or staffing company: you have to contact that agency for a new assignment first and then wait three full business days before you're even allowed to apply. The state's unpaid waiting week also works differently than most — TWC only pays it out once you've either returned to full-time work or exhausted the rest of your benefits.

Have your Social Security number, driver's license or state ID number, and your last employer's name, address, phone number, and exact employment dates ready.

Registration is required to maintain eligibility, alongside completing your county's required number of weekly work-search activities.

Choose direct deposit or a TWC debit card
Set your payment method when you apply, or update it later through UBS or by calling Tele-Serv.

Log into UBS or call the automated Tele-Serv line at 800-558-8321, reporting any work and earnings for each week.
