The Business Resource Center provides start-up and small business owners in the Washington Metropolitan Area with resources to develop and expand entrepreneurial or small business operations. The Department encourages economic growth and viability for the creation of jobs in the District of Columbia. Nationally, small business enterprises lead the way for job creation. To assist in this objective, the Center offers support to enhance the long-term growth and economic sustainability of entrepreneurs and small businesses. The Center provides consulting services as well as access to capital resources and links to contracting opportunities. There is no Veteran`s Representative at this location.

Veterans reps, employment reps, phones, free internet, resume writing assistance, and computers are on site. Representatives are available with an appointment. Full range of jobseeker and employer services. Full range of workforce development services including career counseling, vocational assessment, access to labor market information, referral to occupational skills training, job search and placement assistance, access to self-directed job search resources, and registration for unemployment insurance benefits.

The Passport to Work Program is the District`s youth initiative that offers youth between the ages of 14 and 24 employment, training and internship opportunities throughout the year. The Passport to Work Program is composed of the Summer Youth Employment Program, Year Round Program (In-School and Out-of-School Programs), and the Mayor`s Youth Leadership Institute (MYLI). The summer program, which is locally funded, provides work experience opportunities; academic enrichment programs; assorted arts programming and world of work orientation. The In-School component of the Year Round Program, which is federally funded, offers paid internship opportunities to youth who attend secondary school in various occupational areas in order to communicate and foster employability standards, integrate academics with employment and to facilitate the transfer of skills attained in the workplace. The Out-of-School Program, for young adults 16 to 24, is federally and locally funded and offers employability and skills training opportunities, paid work experience, and job placement assistance. The MYLI offers leadership training and development for youth 14 to 19 years of age. The training focuses on personal growth, community development, work readiness, life skills and career exploration. Youth 18 to 24 years of age may also access workforce development services and other resources through the District`s network of one stop career centers. Here they will receive one-on-one case management services, and be given assistance with labor market information resources, identification of skills training, educational and employment opportunities, and other supportive services resources. A veteran`s representative is not available at this location.
