How to File for Unemployment in Connecticut

Connecticut's Department of Labor (CTDOL) files initial claims through its ReEmployCT system, and the state leans heavily on self-service tools — an online case-submission form and an appointment scheduler — to cut down on phone hold times for claims representatives. If you created a ReEmployCT account before July 5, 2022, you'll need to set up a new one, since the state migrated its claimant system.

What You'll Need

✓ Social Security number ✓ ReEmployCT claimant account login ✓ Last employer's name, address, and dates of employment ✓ Reason for job separation ✓ Bank account and routing number for direct deposit
  1. 1

    Start a new claim online

Go to the Start a New Claim link on portal.ct.gov/dol/unemployment-benefits, which routes you into ReEmployCT to create or log in to your claimant account.

  2. 2

    Create your ReEmployCT account

New filers, and anyone who registered before July 5, 2022, need to create a fresh claimant account in the rebuilt ReEmployCT system before they can file.

  3. 3

    Complete your initial claim application

Answer ReEmployCT's questions about your recent work history and reason for separation to submit your claim.

  4. 4

Use self-service tools instead of waiting on hold, if you have questions

CTDOL encourages claimants to submit a case online at ctcc.my.site.com/submit or use the online appointment scheduler to reach a claims representative rather than calling directly, since call volumes and wait times can be long.

  5. 5

    File your weekly certification

Log back in to ReEmployCT each week to certify and manage your claim; if you need to speak with someone by phone, CTDOL's numbers are (203) 941-6868, (860) 967-0493, or (800) 956-3294.
