How to File for Unemployment in Georgia

The Georgia Department of Labor has you apply either online or at a local Career Center, but before you can actually submit anything you first have to create a password and separate 4-digit PIN on the MyUI Claimant Portal — two different credentials that trip people up.

What You'll Need

✓ Social Security number ✓ Valid unexpired government-issued photo ID ✓ Employer name, address and employment dates for the last 18 months ✓ Alien registration number if not a citizen ✓ Bank account and routing number for direct deposit

    Collect your documents

    You'll need your Social Security number, valid photo ID, separation notice if you have one, and 18 months of employer contact details.

    Create your MyUI password and PIN

    Set up both a portal password and a separate PIN before you can file — the PIN is not the same as your login password.

    Complete the lawful presence affidavit if asked

    Georgia electronically verifies every claimant's legal presence in the U.S. through the Department of Driver Services or Homeland Security, and will prompt you for an affidavit if it can't verify you automatically.

    File your claim

    Apply through the MyUI Claimant Portal, or visit a local Career Center if you need in-person help.

    Register for employment services

    Most claimants are required to register for work through WorkSource Georgia unless specifically exempted.

    Request weekly payments and log your job search

    Certify each week on MyUI and keep a record of your work search activity, since it may be requested for verification.
