How to File for Unemployment in Rhode Island

Rhode Island's DLT call center keeps unusually limited hours — it's closed entirely on Wednesdays — so if your claim runs into trouble mid-week, UI Online is really your only option until Thursday. The state also runs separate phone lines depending on your situation: one for workshare claims, another for interstate claims.

   Have your recent employment details and, if choosing direct deposit, your bank name, routing number, and account number ready.

   Apply at beta.uionline.dlt.ri.gov, or call (401) 415-6772 during business hours (closed Wednesdays) if you'd rather file by phone.

   Choose how you'll get paid

   Pick direct deposit or Rhode Island's Electronic Payment Card — direct deposit is recommended to avoid delays.

   Serve your one-week waiting period

   You won't be paid for the first week you're eligible, but you still have to request payment for it to get credit.

   Keep requesting payment each week you remain unemployed to continue receiving benefits.
